A SOLID WORKS Mechanical Design certification is highly sought after by many CAD professionals. SOLID WORKS provides nine different certifications, ranging from the entry-level Certified CAD Professional (CCP), through to the Associate level, or Professional, which can be taken as multiple tests. Each certifying level offers several different certifications to choose from. There are two levels of certifying, namely the Certificate Expert. The certificate certifies that the candidate has the basic knowledge in SolidWorks.

The Associate level, on the other hand, is for students who wish to specialize in an area of CAD applications, such as CAD Professional (CPC) programs, or those who are currently employed in a CAD position. This certificate, however, does not provide the skills and experience needed to become a certified professional. Students in the College of Science must take several additional subjects including mathematics, electronics, and chemistry in order to gain a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (EngR).

Once they have graduated with their CAD Professional certification, students who pursue a program of study in College of Engineering Technology may select one of the six certifying levels available: Certified CAD Professional (CCP), Certified Mechanical Designer (CMDP), Certified Industrial Designer (CID), Certified Welding Designer (CWD), and Certified Automotive Design Technician (CAD-T). The four other certifying levels are Certified Electrical Designer (CED), Certified Chemical Designer (CCD), Certified Computer Graphics Designer (CGC), and Certified Product Design Specialist (CPDS). For each level there are a number of specific courses and exams required to pass. It is essential that you contact a College of Engineering Technology to discuss the classes and exams required to complete your education in a particular discipline before enrolling.

In addition to the certifying certificates, the University of Maryland offers a variety of other benefits to its students. The College of Engineering Technology has earned recognition from the National Academy of Engineering and has developed its own Engineering Technology Association (ETA). This helps to provide the community with a recognized and respected college in the industry and can serve as a valuable resource for industry-related jobs in the future.
